Platforms Associate: Rapid Response
The JB for Governor Campaign is seeking a Platforms Associate: Rapid Response to create and publish timely, engaging content that capitalizes on breaking news, trending conversations, long-term campaign priorities and messaging, and real-time opportunities across digital platforms. This role will create and draft content for platforms including X (Twitter), Threads, and Bluesky.
Location: Chicago, IL (this position may travel as needed)
Reports to: Content Manager
Salary range: $72,500 – 78,500
Role Overview
This role is responsible for monitoring the social media landscape, identifying opportunities to join relevant online conversations, and producing high-quality content under tight deadlines. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, has excellent news judgment, and can quickly create platform-native content while maintaining brand voice, accuracy, and strategic messaging.
Key Responsibilities
- Own day-to-day content creation, publishing, and community engagement on X (Twitter), Threads, and Bluesky.
- Monitor breaking news, opposition messaging, and trending conversations in real time to identify rapid-response opportunities.
- Draft and publish rapid-response content under tight deadlines, maintaining accuracy, brand voice, and strategic messaging.
- Track opposition activity and flag emerging threats or opportunities to the Content Manager and digital team.
- Coordinate with the communications team to ensure real-time content is aligned with official campaign positions and talking points, as well as the research team to ensure content is factually accurate and substantiated before publishing.
- Engage with supporters, reporters, validators, and public figures on text-based platforms as appropriate.
- Identify opportunities to insert the campaign into trending conversations and cultural moments.
- Monitor platform conversations and sentiment to surface insights for the broader team.
- Implement growth strategies and track key engagement and performance metrics on assigned platforms.
- Stay updated on platform trends, algorithm changes, and new features across X (Twitter), Threads, and Bluesky.
- Contribute to cross-team projects and support other campaign digital needs during high-priority moments, including event coverage and content production.
About You
- You are extremely online, closely tracking the news cycle, political landscape, and cultural conversations in real time.
- You can write fast, accurately, and in a voice that isn't yours — and make it sound natural.
- You have strong instincts for what will land on text-based platforms like X (Twitter), Threads, and Bluesky.
- You are comfortable making real-time editorial decisions and know when to post and when to escalate.
- You pay close attention to accuracy, tone, and detail — especially under deadline pressure.
- You are organized and can manage multiple priorities while staying responsive to breaking developments.
- You understand that political campaign work often requires flexibility, including occasional long hours or weekend work.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to produce accurate content under tight deadlines.
- Strong understanding of major social media platforms and emerging digital trends.
- Experience with social publishing, monitoring, and analytics tools.
- Basic graphic design and short-form video editing skills are preferred.
- Strong judgment, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work flexible hours when major news or events require rapid content development.
- Experience managing social media or digital communications.
- Familiarity with news monitoring, opposition research, or political communications is a plus.
